We collect data to provide you services such as the use of our maps on your device, the purchase of a map update, the installation of one of our apps on your mobile device, as well as to keep you updated regarding our products and our initiatives, to improve our products and services and to offer you a better experience when you contact us for any reason.

Ocean Maps collects information from users upon registration on its website and in connection with the use of any of Ocean Maps‘ applications. The personally identifiable information collected by Ocean Maps falls in the following categories:

  • Email address;
  • Miscellaneous diving data, such as length and type of dive, etc.

Personally identifiable information shall be saved and used in particular in order to offer new applications to the user, to improve such applications and conform them to the users' needs.


These data are implicitly transmitted by the use of Internet communication protocols that we collect as you browse the site. This information is not collected to be associated with identified parties, but by their very nature may, through processing and association with data held by third parties, allow users to be identified. This category of data includes IP addresses or domain names of computers used by users connecting to the site, the URI (Uniform Resource Identifier) of requested resources, the time of request, the method used to submit the request to the server, the size of the file obtained in reply, the numerical code indicating the status of the reply provided by the server (successful, error, etc.) and other parameters regarding the operating system and computer environment of the user.

These data are used only to obtain anonymous statistical information on site use and to check its correct functioning and are deleted immediately after processing. The data may be used to ascertain responsibility in case of hypothetical computer crimes against the site: apart for this possibility, at present data on web contacts do not remain for more than seven days.


The data collected are processed using electronic means for the time strictly needed to achieve the purposes for which such data are collected, except for their transformation into anonymous form that does not allow in any way, nor indirectly through combination with other data, to trace your identity. The data collected with your consent for marketing purposes, will be stored for a period not exceeding twenty-four months from their registration.

To prevent the loss of data, their accidental destruction, damaging, unlawful or improper and unauthorized access, specific safety measure are observed, such as TLS / SSL and other protocols in compliance with applicable regulations.


By registering, the user explicitly agrees that Ocean Maps shall have the right to use all automatically collected personally identifiable information, in accordance with the privacy settings of such user, for purposes of the Ocean Maps applications. Ocean Maps does not pass on personally identifiable information (see above) to third parties, except as required by law or with the explicit consent of the user. Ocean Maps implements all reasonable measures to prevent the unauthorized access by third parties to saved details.

KG in Königsberger Straße 6, 32339 Espelkamp, Germany The databases and servers in which your personal information may be stored are guarded by Amazon Web Services, Inc. in the US or Mittwald in Germany and are managed exclusively by the technical staff responsible for processing or by persons appointed to conduct periodic maintenance. Amazon and Mittwald have adhered to the US-EU Safe Harbor as determined by the US Department of Commerce for the collection, use and storage of data of the European Union and will handle personal data received from the European Union in accordance with the principles of the said “Safe Harbor”. The Ocean Maps Platform includes social media plugins, such as Facebook, 1601 South California Avenue, Palo Alto, CA 94304, USA. Such plugins can recognize a user’s IP address and the page visited on the Ocean Maps platform, and, possibly, store cookies, so that the services offered by Ocean Maps work properly. Social media plugins and widgets are hosted either by third party providers or directly by us. Your interactions with these plugins are subject to this privacy policy or the privacy policy of any third party that offers such feature. Ocean Maps is not responsible for the use of, or guidelines regarding the use of, personal data by third party providers.

Users may recognize the respective plugins, e.g., by the respective logo or other respective characteristic typical for the respective social media-platform on our pages. You can find an overview of Facebook-plugins here:

If a user interacts with the plugins, e. g. by clicking on the Facebook "Like-Button" or entering a comment, while being logged in to such user's Social Media-account on Facebook, Google+, etc. a user links the contents of the Ocean Maps pages to her respective social media-profile. Thereby, Facebook can associate a user's visit of the Ocean Maps app with such user's social media-account. Ocean Maps as the provider of the Ocean Maps platform does not have any knowledge of the content of the transmitted data or its usage by Facebook. If users do not want to have the respective social media-platform associate their visits on our site with their social media-account, users must log out from their social media-account.


The Ocean Maps platform uses Google Analytics, a mobile analysis service by Google Inc. Google will use the information collected on behalf of the application operator to evaluate your use of the Ocean Maps platform, to compile reports about your activities within the Ocean Maps platform, and to provide further services to Ocean Maps related to use of the Ocean Maps platform and Internet use. Google will under no circumstances associate the IP address transmitted by your device within the operations of Google Analytics with other Google data.

The Ocean Maps platform expanded the Google Analytics-Service with the “anonymizeIP”-Code to anonymize the user’s IP-address.


Your personal information will not be disclosed to the public and may be provided only for the purposes specified above to the following categories of persons:

(i) our employees,

(ii) individuals, companies, associations or professionals who have been appointed to carry out on our behalf assistance services and activiies and advice related to commercial activity.

Such categories acting as controllers or processors, only come into possession of personal data for the performance of their duties and may use and disclose them only in order to perform said services on our behalf or to comply with legal regulations. Controllers or processors that may be designated shall receive adequate operating instructions, with specific reference to the minimum security measures to ensure the confidentiality and security of data.
